On March 8th I flew to Boston for my son’s hockey playoffs with plans to road trip back to California through the South. I knew about Covid before I left but did not think it would impact my trip. Shortly into my stay I saw a TV news report about 20 confirmed Covid cases at the Boston Long Warf hotel. Later that night we went to a restaurant in the North End close to the Long Warf. The restaurants on Hanover Street were eerily empty and the few people around were all talking about the outbreak. Public health officials have since determined 100 attendees of a conference at the Long Warf contracted Covid and eventually spread it to approximately 300,000 others. It is intense to think how close we were to one of the first Covid outbreak locations.
