PHOTO LA
Santa Monica, California
February 2nd, 2020
I’m a third generation Californian, both sets of my grandparents moved here in the 1920’s. I grew up in Pasadena and have been all over Southern California the past 50 years so I know the different areas and people pretty well.
Luckily Photo LA was held in February before the pandemic hit so it was one of the last events I went to in “normal times”. I have gone to a lot of Photo LA’s over the years, love seeing the different galleries come to Los Angeles and I appreciate being able to follow market trends with everything in one place. Some years it is at Paramount Studio in Hollywood, this year it was at a converted hanger at the Santa Monica airport used for events. I always bring a camera to Photo LA because I’m guaranteed to see some classic LA people. I do not know if I can accurately describe them, some are old money, some recently moved to LA and take on the lifestyle, others may just be in “The Industry”. They are different than people from the valleys or the South Bay or Orange County or other parts of Southern California, they are the most stylish but not in the same was as a New Yorker. The movie LA LA Land captured that type of person from Los Angeles perfectly.
I felt it important to include this gallery to contrast the difference of life before and after pandemic hit.
