GRAVEYARD
In 1984 I found myself drawn to photograph a cemetery in Christchurch, New Zealand as I was passing by it and I have been pretty much photographing in cemeteries ever since. I assume some people would probably find it morbid, or boring, or even scary to spend so much time photographing in cemeteries while others are also drawn to them.
For me I am interested in headstones, tombs, and markers. I am interested in how different people sum up a lifetime with he design of their markers and the words chosen to describe themselves. I enjoy seeing the varied designs of the markers, especially as compositional elements of my images. Finally I like to use some of my time in these places to allow myself to refocus on my own life, my mortality, and getting some motivation to make the most of life.
